Half Earth

Half Earth is a series of paintings that began in the winter of 2018 and is inspired by Edward O’ Willson’s 2016 book of the same name. Through the paintings Armstrong asks questions of ecological endangerment and contemplates what role humanity plays as one species in a much larger ecosystem. With the intent of communicating a tragic beauty and loss of potential, Armstrong juxtaposes images of endangered/extinct species against human figures who are thrust into the natural environments of those species, ironically endangering the humans in the process.
