Armstrong is captivated by lithography’s contemplative process, its industrial applications, and its historic preservation through the production of propaganda during world war I and II.
With this context in mind, he employs this medium to examine the inconsistencies between America's stated beliefs and its practices, asking questions about American society, with special emphasis on social development and widely assumed beliefs. Armstrong is interested in the collapse between Capitalism and Christianity as well as the inconsistencies between what America professes to believe and our actions as a nation. Many of his works pay homage to art historical references, and religious iconography encouraging his viewers to be inquisitive about the imagery at hand.
